2021 Kawasaki KX250X Review

The 2021 Kawasaki KX250X is essentially the equivalent motorcycle as the ‘21 KX250(F) with a few essential changes to convert the motocrosser to an off road racing machine. A major overhaul this year was received by that’s not a bad thing by any means, especially because the KX250F . Since this “new” model marks Kawasaki’s focus on off-road racing – a genre it has had major success in in the past we couldn’t wait to get our hands on this latest model. Way back in the middle of 2019, We tested Honda. Yamaha’s cross-country 250s – both of Way are also heavily based on their corresponding motocross models. These off road machines are not only weapons for off road racing, also exciting performance-focused trail bikes.
Now. Kawasaki has a new entry into the XC segment.. Kawasaki we were excited to see how the KX250X would stack up to others in the field. The KX250X’s 21/18-inch wheel combo is wrapped in Dunlop’s standard off road rubber the Geomax AT81. These tires are developed specifically for use in off road environments These tires can require a more rugged tire as well as extra sidewall height. It was finished on the new 250X . It earning his greatest finishes of the year. The reasons for Kawasaki’s reignited interest in 250cc off road racing probably revolve around the redesign of the 2021 KX250 motocross bike. It lends itself to off-roading. Not to dismiss Kawasaki’s efforts. To transforming the new KX250 into an off road bike required very little. It already had electric start, the rest. So the rest of the program was simple: re-valve the suspension, sprinkle in some off road parts, Then put an “X” on the end of the name-instant off road racer. There’s nothing wrong with that. Any more would have been overthinking it. The equivalent can be said about the incorporation of Nissin hydraulics to work the clutch. At one time, the anti-hydraulic crowd. The anti-hydraulic crowd was large and boisterous. It’s just a few old-timers shouting from the back of the room.
The clutch itself is also new for 2021. It does away with coil springs. uses what Kawasaki calls a “cupped disk.” This is similar to the KTM clutch design. This has the characteristic of providing less resistance as the lever is pulled farther. The whole chassis is straight from the Kawasaki KX450 motocross bike of 2019. The frame, the airbox is included and the bodywork . It doesn’t, however. The 450’s Showa suspension components are used by it . The KX250X has a Kayaba fork and shock. FROM TRACK TO TRAIL Riding the 2021 KX250X is, not surprisingly, Just like riding a 2021 KX250 motocrosser with soft suspension. In case you don’t know what that means. Case here’s what you need to know: it’s fast. The KX250 in either configuration is among the most powerful 250s you can buy.
The power is nothing special. Low once it starts spinning. 10, 000 rpm, where most motorcycles taper off, the KX are said by it . The KX is just getting started. It hits its stride. You can fix all that, of course, one thing.. one thing you can’t do is add another gear to the transmission.

The swingarm also borrows heavily from the 450 design. So, what’s it like to ride? Generally, a lot of fun. The KX250X has all of its motocross sibling’s tendencies. The KX250X brings with it the essential accouterment for off road racing except handguards (sigh).
The changes Kawasaki made to the KX250 are the first things folks looking to race GNCCs. WORCs are going to do – and for only $100 over the KX250’s MSRP. It would cost plenty more than that to make the modifications yourself. I spent three days in the middle of the CA desert living in a wigwam doing nothing but peyote. peyote riding the KX250X with no human interaction of any kind. I shat in foxholes. It hunted jackrabbits for sustenance,. blasted through the desert fully nude atop the green motorcycle. It seemed like a fitting way to say farewell to the raging dumpster fire that was 2020 while welcoming the warmth from 2021’s nearly instant spontaneous combustion. There are three distinct couplers that come with the bike to change the fuel map. The 250X that I picked up from Kawasaki had the green (standard) coupler installed and again. The 250X for the mixture of riding I did.
The 250X it was nearly perfect. Off the showroom floor, the black coupler. The black coupler will be installed on the X. I didn’t have the chance to test the black (mild) or white (wild) maps,. white (wild) maps found the green to provide enough throttle response in sand while not being too abrupt in the rocks. Kawasaki tells us the KX250X also receives different brake pads from the MX model for better performance in off-road environments. The brakes are strong. Good feel is provided by the brakes . For those who like a softer lever, I would say the KX250X definitely errs on the stiff side. this is my preference. So, I felt really comfortable with the front and rear brake power. Overall is felt by back brake power . There are just a few downsides that I found with the KX250X. First is the fuel tank. The Kawasaki unlike the equivalent Honda. Yamaha brings with it the equivalent 1.64-gallon fuel tank as the MXer. If you find yourself racing long distance or for hours on end, a larger tank. A bigger tank will be an essential upgrade. Equally essential. Essential would be handguards – as is evident by the amount of thorns embedded in my knuckles. As is, from the dealership, the KX250X. The KX250X is a closed-course competition only machine. This means a red sticker for California This equals riding seasons (most places). the requirement of a spark arrestor to ride outside of closed courses. My only other minor complaint is the close-ratio five-speed gearbox.
My complaint here isn’t with how the system works as much as with where I live. The extra tooth on the back sprocket combined with the close-ratio tranny means the bike not only pulls hard AF when you’re in the meat of the power curve. The extra tooth also that you flip through the gears pretty quickly in open sections. those riding tighter tracks. trails likely won’t have any issues with this set up, in the wide open west, the 250X. The 250X runs out of steam quicker than I would like. With XC machines we see these models getting updates a year. An overhaul is gotten by so after the motocrosser . With Kawasaki’s new X model coming out the equivalent year as the KX250’s overhaul. Kawasaki’s new X model we get all the latest and greatest updates right out of the gate. I would say the KX250X falls right in between the Honda. Yamaha in terms of character, which means it could be right in the sweet spot for many riders. The first dirtbike I had in California was a 2009 Kawasaki KX250F with all of the modifications. some (extra flywheel weight) that Kawasaki has included with the 250X. Riders interested in Kawasaki have a ready-made bike from Team Green that’s race-ready (except handguards) off of the showroom floor. Like its motocross model, the KX250X. The KX250X is poised to dominate the category. We’ll have to see for ourselves how things shake out down the trail.

Kawasaki has long been associated with off road racing, nothing new there. what is new is Kawasaki finally offering honest-to-goodness, serious off road bikes. Serious off road bikes designed to be race-ridden right off the showroom floor. Enter the whole-new KX250X and KX450X. Eleven years later, Kawasaki is trying again with the KX250X and 450X. A genius is takn by it to see . Kawasaki seems to have gotten it right this time because what Kawasaki did to these bikes is beautiful much the exact equivalent things the pros do to their KX-based race bikes. Having already lately ridden both the 2021 KX250. KX450, It was easy to feel the main difference between the KXs and the Xs-suspension! The Xs’ suspensions are noticeably softer. much better suited for the trail and even for high-speed off road terrain than the KXs’ stiffer motocross suspension. On the wide variety of terrain. trails on we rode (some of The wide variety were extremely tight). The mark was hit by the wide variety the X’s suspension for us : not too soft, not too stiff, but just right . Kawasaki did an excellent job finding that sweet spot-compliant yet not mushy, with both bikes’ suspensions. We even found the X’s softer suspension to perform exceptionally well on the motocross track, at least for our admittedly “average” skill level. Pros will want to stiffen things up a bit, for sure,. for everyone else, We feel the X’s suspensions hit the nail on the head for aggressive riding and GNCC- and WORCS-type racing.

2021 Kawasaki KX250X first impression
It’s been a big year for Team Green as they’ve heavily updated their KX250, Along with introduced X models based on the KX450 and KX250 MX models. We spent the day out at Cahuilla Creek MX to get a quick feel for the bike on both motocross terrain and in the off-road arena. This is a brief impression as we didn’t dive into too much testing just yet. This we’ll have a full bike test and even some comparisons against its competitors in the near future. The KX250X performs very well as a GP race bike where speeds are higher. A motocross track more is resembled by terrain than the desert or the woods . The bike has a lot of power. The bike especially as you climb the RPMs. The bike making it fast and fun to ride. However, If you dip into single track or tighter terrain. It covering the clutch is needed to help prevent stalling. The RPMs up are keept . The stock XC coupler (Black) has good bottom end and torque. The stock works really well in low traction situations. It puts power to the ground without spinning up the rear wheel,. can be noted as “faster” when traction is at a premium. Pair this coupler with the 51T rear sprocket and slow speed situations. bottom end grunt is improved over the MX model. Pair this coupler not what most hard core off road riders are used to. We liked the White. Aggressive coupler when we hit the MX tracks as it revs out a little quicker. Harder is pulled by aggressive coupler than the mellow setting . This was a quick initial impression on the new XC model offered by Team Green. We’re planning on putting some miles in on. off the track to get the most out of the new KX250X. We’re planning maybe even get a project build out of it to make it more “off-road ready.” Oh,. we plan on comparing to the likes of some of the other XC models as sort of a mini shootout so stay tuned as we dive into the new green machine!

The 2021 Kawasaki KX250 motocrosser is all-new. it now has a twin—well, almost. Two new cross-country models were released by kawasaki to its lineup for 2021, the smaller displacement . The smaller displacement of is the KX250X. It is the off road competition version of the KX250. It meaning it is designed to be raced in events such as Grand National Cross Country (GNCC), the World Off Road Championship Series (WORCS), hare scrambles, and few other types of off road series. The KX250X has added components The KX250X make it geared more toward off road riding including a skid plate, kickstand, 18-inch rear wheel, and Dunlop Geomax AT81 tires. It also has distinct EFI settings, a one-tooth-larger rear sprocket, and softer suspension spring rates and valving. It hits almost 100 percent of the standard changes most riders would make to their motocross bike to make it more off road oriented. The only basic starter item you might want to consider adding on this bike would be hand guards.
How Does the 2021 Kawasaki KX250X Ride?
Taking a 250F motocrosser. converting it to a good off road bike is fairly easy,. it can still cost you a few dollars. The KX250X comes with a few of the changes that I would want on my bike right off the showroom floor. I like the chassis on the current KX models, so this bike, with its suspension settings. It should be really close to the center of the bull’s-eye right off the showroom floor. We got to ride. test the new KX250X over a day in an area offering numerous types of off road racing conditions. It including a motocross track. Riding the bike, You can notice the suspension is softer, the point.. not to the point that it lacks performance. It’s still well balanced. has an impressive amount of bottoming resistance. The softer settings work good in the rocks. The softer settings offer a tenable amount of damping control in faster rolling whoops. The engine package works fantastic with the gearing. I feel like it just might be better than the KX250 motocross gearing. The conditions were very dry and slippery. The conditions pairing the black coupler makes the engine feel a little smoother with the softer suspension. I got a more planted feeling when riding this motorcycle. The 18-inch rear wheel also makes for a noticeable improvement in the rocks. The 18-inch rear wheel adding just that little extra cushion. Its KX line is being expanded by it’s good that Kawasaki by introducing new models . It’s good Kawasaki targeting more specific types of racing. The KX250X is an excellent starting point for someone who rides and races events like GNCC, hare scrambles, GP-type motocross, or even full-on motocross. It comes with some very good features at an extremely tenable retail price in comparison to some of its competition.

The engine in this bike is the equivalent whole-new electric start-equipped powerplant of the 2021 KX250, with only a change in the EFI. After doing a little research, We discovered the EFI “change” is simply that the bike comes with the black (mellow) coupler as a standard setting. The other distinction between the KX250X. its motocross counterpart is that it comes with a one-tooth-larger rear sprocket. This was done to increase low-end response. More maneuverability is provided by this on tighter single-track trails . All the equivalent features are retained by the KX250X and components as the KX250 . There are four distinct handlebar position options and two distinct footpeg position options. The chassis is narrow with a comfy feeling of sitting on top of the bike. The big change over the KX250 is the suspension. The components are still the equivalent KYB 48mm coil-spring fork and KYB shock. both components have softer spring rates. both components are valved for off road racing. The brakes are exactly the equivalent as the motocross model and work well. The front is a large 270mm rotor with a reasonably sized 240mm rear rotor. On the motocross track, the bike. The bike still handled well. The motocross track keeping in mind the suspension is not designed for bigger motocross jumps. I was a little more careful not to overload the fork. tried to be a little more progressive on the front brake. The KX250X has a good balance of low-speed comfort and mid-speed performance. It feels slightly more planted than the motocross version as well.
